About the Madrid Coffee Scene

Madrid’s specialty coffee scene took shape more recently than Barcelona’s, but has grown quickly since Toma Café opened its Malasaña counter in 2011. The neighbourhood remains the historic hub, alongside Barrio de las Letras, Lavapiés, and La Latina.

Roasters and Shops

Several Madrid shops roast their own beans, including Hola Coffee, whose Lagasca location was ranked 12th in the World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops list for 2025 — the highest placement of any Spanish café. The city also hosts CoffeeFest, an annual specialty coffee festival held at IFEMA each February.

What to expect

Expect small, focused counters as much as full café seating, a strong filter-coffee culture alongside espresso, and prices in the moderate range typical of European specialty coffee (roughly €2.50–4.50 for a coffee drink, per multiple 2026 guides).
